Gerhard Weikum is a Research director at the Max Planck Institute for Computer Science in Germany.
Nowadays he acts as President of the VLDB Endowment, which organizes the yearly International Conference on Very Large Databases, one of the best scientific conferences for researches in the area of data-base research and information-retrieval methods.
Weikum has written more than 150 publications , including a textbook about control and recovery. He has worked on some journals and book series too.
He has participated on the YAGO, that is a large collection of entities and relational facts that are harvested from Wikipedia and WordNet with high accuracy and reconciled into a consistent RDF-style “semantic” graph.
Now,apart from be the President of the VLDB, he is working as a program committee chair for international conferences like ACM SIGMOD 2004, and CIDR 2007.
