Martin Kay is known for his work in computational linguistics.He was born and grown up in Britain and studied at Trinity College, Cambridge. In 1958 he began working at the Language Research Unit in Cambridge.
In 1961 he began to work on Ran Corporation in Santa Monica, where he was the head of research in linguistics and machine translation. During his career he has worked on many sites and now is Professor of Linguistics at Stanford University and Honorary Professor of Computational Linguistics at Saarland University.
His accomplishments include the development of the analysis of letter and functional unification grammar and major contributions to the use of finite state automata in computational phonology and morphology.
