Web-a 1990 aldera sortu zuten CERN-ean (Geneva, Suitza) lanean ari ziren Sir Tim Berners-Lee ingelesak eta Robert Cailliau belgiarrak. Geroztik, Berners-Leek paper aktibo bat jokatu du Web estandarren garapena gidatzen (adibidez web orriak osatzen duten markatzeko lengoaien kasuan ).
