In order to approach the concept of Human Language Technology, I would firstly like to introduce the figure of Hans Uszkoreit, a German professor who studied Linguistics and Computer Science Technologies at the Technical University of Berlin and at the University of Texas in Austin where he received his Ph.D in linguistics in 1984. Today he teaches Computational linguistics at Saarland University and also works as a Scientific Director at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). Apart from being a member of the European Academy of Sciences,the International Committee of Computational Linguistics (ICCL) and the European Netwoboratrk of Language and Speech, he is also a co-founder and adviser in two Language Technology enterprises.
He has collaborated in several projects such as a large machine translation project (Linguistics Research Centre), or investigating for the Special Collaborative Research Division and for the University of Edimbrugh. His current research is focused on the following concepts related to Human Technologies; such as computer models of natural language understanding and production, advanced applications of language and knowledge technologies like semantic information systems, structuring of distributed digital knowledge among many others.
