Human Language Technology

The main aim of Language Technology is to develop software applications capable of understanding human natural languages (that differ from computer languages) in order to solve the communication problems that interaction between people and machines have generated in the past. In some way, we are now teaching machines how to communicate with us, how to talk with us… making them more “human”.

Consequently, we can obtain some benefits from these “civilized” computers. For instance, in the near future we will be able to communicate in an easier and faster way with people that do not share the same mother tongue than us thanks to the use of interfaces. At the same time, the Internet will become more global due to the increasing multilinguality of the web, which makes this tool more powerful each time enabling us to share even more knowledge.

Summing up, in no time Language Technology will facilitate our daily work allowing us, for example, to answer automatically to e-mails, to extract some specific information from a book, to translate texts immediately, etc. As you can see, Language Technology is gaining importance each day.
