Its main contribution is the “Preference Semantics,” a method that helps the algorithms to assigning the “most coherent” interpretation to a sentence in terms of having the maximum number of internal preferences of its parts (normally verbs or adjectives).

 Yorick Wilks has been elected a member of the American and European Associations for Artificial Intelligence of the British Computer Society and a member of the Committee on Research Computing in the UK. He is Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Sheffield and a senior researcher at the Oxford Internet Institute. In the 1990s Professor Wilks was interested in modeling man-machine and the team led by David Levy, as chief investigator and he won the Loebner Prize in 1997 [4]. He is currently the Director of the project funded by the European Union Partners in the creation of long term team for accompanying persons.

 In 2009, he was awarded the British Computer Society Medal Lovelace, its annual award for research achievement.
