en texto llano (plain text), es una herramienta para dar formato a listas de referencias que se utiliza habitualmente con el sistema de preparación de documentos LaTeX. BibTeX fue creado por Oren Patashnik y Leslie Lamport en 1985. BibTeX facilita la realización de citas bibliográficas de un modo consistente mediante la separación de la información bibliográfica de la presentación de esta información. Este mismo principio de separación del contenido y presentación/estilo es usado tanto por LaTeX, como por XHTML y CSS, etc. (wikipedia.org).
Testuan oinarrituta dagoen artxibo egitura hau elementu bibliografikoen zerrendak (artikuluak, liburuak, tesiak) definitzeko estiloarekiko independiente da. BibTex artikulu bibliografikoek sarri .bib daramate amaieran. .biberi dagozkion item bibliografikoak motaren arabera daude sailkatuak. Hurrengo motak BibTex estilo guztiek ezagunak dira:
- article: egunkari edo aldizkari bateko artikulua
- book: liburu bat. Eskatzen diren ezaugarriak: author o editor, title, publisher, year.
- booklet: inprimaturik dagoen obra (bound), baina argitaletxe edo babeslerik ez duena (sponsoring).
- inbook: Liburu baten zati bat, kapitulu bat edo orrialde kopuru jakin bat izan daiteke.
- incollection: izenburu propioa duen liburu baten zati bat.
- inproceedings: hitzaldi baten aktak (proceedings).
- manual: dokumentazio teknikoa.
- mastersthesis: tesia edo karrera amaierako proiektua.
- misc: gainontzeko motek bat objektuarekin egiten ez dutenean
- proceedings: hitzaldi baten aktak.
