The subject of my choice: History of Art

julio 6th, 2011 · No hay Comentarios

I started studying History of Art at school two years ago, and I loved. This year, when I saw that I was going to have it again I felt very lucky. In fact I bought all the recommended books in order to grow my knowledge about Art.
I think is a very useful science that not many people knows. As, Leonardo Da Vinci said:

“Art is the Queen of all sciences communicating knowledge to all the generations of the world.”

This discipline studies the evolution of Art  over time. It embraces from Prehistoric Art to these days’. Anyway, is such a dense subject that we haven’t been able to study complety. In fact, we have only seen

Prehistoric Art; the longest period in the Human’s life. We know few about it, and all we have about this Art is located in Spain (and some in South France).
Why have been theese paintings done and what is their meaning is the main question that people in XIX wonder.
We can only suppose, imagine or believe, because there are no evidence of these Art’s goal.

After this, we have studied Egiptian,  which it is considerated World Heritage (their Pyramids). Their works are monumental and with a clear Religious topic.

The Ancient Greece has also a lot of work to be studied. Its arquitecture and Sculpture is an example of proportion and why not, perfection. They used to create their Art works by following some mathematics formulas. Then Roman Art, which caught Greeks’ many methods and apply them to their works. But romans, in comparisson with Greeks, were engineers against artists.

Giorgio Vasari has a great relevance in Art because he was the first Art historian, and wrote “Le Vite de’ più eccellenti architetti, pittori et scultori italiani” (The life of the best italian architects, sculptors and painters)

To sum up, a very nice, interesting and outstanding discipline what University of Deusto provide us in the second course of Modern Languages, Modern Languages and Management, Humanities and Basque Filology.
